Thomas Heatherwick's Seed Cathedral.

above are examples of the work of architect designer Thomas Heatherwick.

A huge World Expo is due to open in Shanghai, China in May.

The theme of the trade show will be "Better City - Better Life" and aims to showcase Shanghai as a major world financial and cultural centre.

The UK's contribution to the Expo is a Pavilion designed by Thomas Heatherwick, whose centrepiece "Seed Cathedral" is a six-storey cube-like structure, pierced by some 60,000 transparent acrylic rods which quiver in the breeze.

I think it's the most incredibly beautiful Jurassic park
fiber optic christmas tree building you can walk inside. The scale is
incredible, it hard to believe it actually exists as a building.
it moves and gives with the wind, like seeds carried in the air.
would love to visit shanghai to see this building i think you have to
see it up close to believe it. It's named the Seed Cathedral.
beautiful name for fantastic structure.

don't forget to feed your hamster

Takashi Iwasaki

Embroidery floss and fabric (hand embroidered)

like mind mapping, Takashi Iwasaki's embroideries are explorations of thoughts that flow to different ideas through mark making. The bright colours and the gradual shading using machine embroidery remind me of felt tip pens. Her embroidery is work similar to her painting style but more controlled. her paintings explore the lucidity of the medium with dips and washes. The paintings remind me of jean michel basquiat's work. her collage work at the top of this post, somehow reming me of the 50's style shapes of cars and buildings. i have included alot of examples here but you can see more at http://www.takashiiwasaki.info/index.html

animations

interviews........

i found these interviews because i was looking for last nights episode of animate tv on 4od. two are from animators who were commissioned by animate projects http://www.animateprojects.org/films/by_artist/s/c_swann. Cordelia's interview tells the story of how she came up with the idea for her film Amnesia, about women who wake up in malibu married to pierce brosnon through amnesia brought about by day time tv. petra freeman also commissioned by channel 4, paints her animations on glass and has an interesting story about maturing eels and being synthesthetic. Jasper goodall takes inspiration from history rather than other illustrators. He designed the cover of varoom of the silhouette of the woman with a zebra print. and jessica hische is typographer illustrator with a nice tatoo.

Grooving, colorful beasties are all around us - just stop to listen to them pounding out this toe-tapping Minilogue track.

Someone reminded me how cool this sour video was. i like the fact it is filmed in shorts and edited together, must have taken ages.....below is a little
animation about a hungry cat.

Victoria Toppings work is featured on the Aoi's recent flyer calling for entries for their images book. It feature's her "Cockerel" image which has been composed in photoshop with layers of fabric patterns and texture. her work is really dynamic full of rythmn and the vibrancy of a carnival.
